THE ORIGIN OF THE FREEDOM SEDER
There are defining moments in life and, for Arthur Waskow, April of 1968 was one of them. He had been involved in the Civil Rights movement but up until then had not been that religious. The confluence of events: Martin Luther King's assassination, coming as it did soon before Passover, changed Waskow's life and his relationship to Judaism. Suddenly, the story of slavery and liberation took on a new relevance. He became inspired to tell a new tale, to create his own Haggadah (prayerbook).
